Privacy Policy

The terms “we” or “us” refer to the Minnesota Opera, which is the operator of the MnOpera.org web site (the “Site”). The terms “you” or “your” refer to you the web site visitor. This privacy policy applies to transactions that are processed and data that is gathered on the Site, and does not apply to any other transactions, information, web site or Internet, telephone or offline point of contact between us and you.

Your Acceptance of this Privacy Policy

By visiting the Site and/or providing us with information you signify your acceptance of the practices that are described in this privacy policy and you consent to receive emails, as described below in this privacy policy. Minnesota Opera reserves the right to modify this privacy policy so you should periodically review it for changes.

What Information Do We Collect

In order to operate the Site and provide you with the online services that are offered at the Site we may collect information that is personally identifiable to you (personally identifiable information) including contact information such as your name, mailing address, phone number, email address and your computer’s unique IP address; and financial information such as passwords, credit and debit card numbers and bank and other financial institution account numbers. Please do not submit any personally identifiable information to us if you are under the age of 13. We may also collect demographic information that is not personally identifiable such as your age, gender, hometown, purchase history, posting and sales information and IP addresses that are not unique to your computer.

What Security Precautions Do We Use?

The security of your personally identifiable information is important to us. We use secure socket layer (SSL) technology to help protect the security of your purchase transactions and donations. Your contact and financial information is encrypted when it is transmitted to us over the internet, and it is encrypted while it is stored on our servers. Your information may be transferred to and stored on equipment or in facilities that we lease from third parties. We require that any such third parties also use SSL and encryption.

How do We use Your Personally Identifiable Information?

Processing Online Purchases or Donations: We use your personally identifiable information to help us efficiently perform your online transactions, to perform quality assurance, sales analyses and other business analyses, and to contact you in connection with events for which you order tickets (including event confirmations, changes and cancellations). We may provide your information to your credit card issuer or to credit card processors for their use in processing your purchase transactions. We may also share your information with third party service providers who we may retain to help us process or fulfill your transactions. If we share your information with such third party service providers we will require them to enter into agreements with us regarding the confidential handling of your information.

Business Transfer, Legal Compliance, Fraud Prevention

If the ownership or assets of the Minnesota Opera are transferred to a third party for any reason including bankruptcy, we may disclose the information we have collected from you to that third party. We may also disclose your personally identifiable information to third parties when we determine that such disclosure is necessary in order to comply with the law, or to cooperate with or seek assistance from law enforcement or to protect the interests or safety of Minnesota Opera or other visitors to the Site or to take part with others in joint anti-fraud activities.

Other Non-Profit Organizations

We may share your information with other non-profit organizations. If you opt out of receiving all promotional emails, we will not share your email address with any such non-profit organization unless we are otherwise permitted to under this privacy policy (for example, we will still be permitted to share your contact information with Merchants but only to the extent permitted above). If you do not opt out of receiving all promotional emails, then we may share your contact information if we believe it makes business sense. These unaffiliated third parties may communicate directly with you about their products and services.

How Do We Use Demographic Information?

We may use your demographic information to perform quality assurance, sales analyses and other business analyses, or to tailor the Site and communications to your interests. We may share anonymous, aggregated (grouped) demographic information with advertisers and other third parties so that they can tailor their advertisements and communications to the appropriate audience. Any time that we are allowed under this privacy policy to share your personally identifiable information, we may also share your demographic information along with it.

Use of Your IP Address

Each time you visit the Site, we automatically collect your IP address and the web page from which you came. In order to administer and optimize the Site for you and to diagnose problems with our Site, we use your IP address to help identify you and to gather broad demographic information about you.

Contacting You by Email

The email address that you provide to us may be used to contact you for the purposes described in the preceding paragraphs. By submitting an email address to us, you agree that we may also send promotional emails to that address until you notify us that you do not wish to receive them. After you have registered and established an account on the Site, you may email us through the site to tell us not to use your email address to send you promotional emails. Because of the time required to implement your preferences throughout our computer systems you may continue to receive promotional emails for up to one week after you tell us not to send them. If we are required by law to notify you that the security of your personal identifiable information has been compromised, then you agree that we may give you such notice at the email address you provide to us rather than by regular mail.

Use or Disclosure of Your Information by Third Parties

We are not liable for any use or disclosure of any of your personally identifiable information by a third party to whom disclosure is made by us pursuant to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Linked Web Sites

The Site may contain links to other web sites that are not operated by us. This privacy policy does not apply to such linked sites. We do not control the persons responsible for the operation of these linked sites and we are not responsible for their actions. If you visit a linked site your personal information may be collected, used or disclosed in ways that differ from those described in this Privacy Policy.
