Resident Artists Program Auditions

The Minnesota Opera’s Resident Artist Program offers a full season of employment for talented artists beginning their professional careers. From late August through April, Resident Artists gain valuable experience in assignments ranging from ensemble, understudy, comprimario to leading roles in mainstage performances. Resident Artists also perform concerts on stage at Ordway Center for Performing Arts, courtroom concerts with The Schubert Club and donor functions, adult education classes and regional outreach.

Master classes with guest clinicians, individualized language work, acting, movement and stage combat, yoga and professional career development are just a few benefits of the program.

The program is designed to bridge the gap between an artist’s academic education and professional career. Ideal Resident Artists are singers, coaches, administrators, conductors and directors who have completed their post-graduate education and may have some professional experience. We have no age limit and are an equal opportunity employer.

The Minnesota Opera General/Chorus Auditions

General vocal Auditions and auditions for The Minnesota Opera Chorus are held yearly in the spring. (Auditions for the 2008-2009 season were held in April 2008.) As this is the one opportunity for everyone to be heard, non-resident singers are welcome and encouraged to audition. However, be aware that most Principal roles are usually cast a year in advance and supporting roles are generally cast locally or from our Resident Artist Program. Auditions are by appointment only and must be scheduled in advance. For further information, please call 612-342-9572.

General/Chorus Audition requirements:

  • Prepare one operatic aria of the performer’s choice, in the original language.
  • Bring current resume and photo.
  • Singer must provide own accompanist.
  • A list of accompanists can be made available upon request.

The Minnesota Opera Orchestra Auditions

Auditions for temporary or permanent vacancies are held as necessary. Auditions for the substitute/extra list are generally held every 2 years. Auditions notices will be posted approximately 6 weeks in advance on this website and in the DUET publication. Notices for important core positions may also be posted in the International Musician.

At this time we have no auditions scheduled. Please check back for future updates.
