Weather Policy
The weather is always a consideration, and one that we can never predict. Minnesota Opera’s weather policy for these concerts is as follows:
If there is a chance of inclement weather, Minnesota Opera’s president will be in conversation with production techs, performers and venue contacts the day of the event, and make a decision to continue or cancel. Since the weather can change rapidly, a final decision will be made as close to show time as possible. Off and on drizzles may not necessarily cancel the show, but there is no cover for the audience. If heavy rain is forecast, the concert at Harriet Island may be moved to the Pavilion and the concert at Shattuck-St. Mary’s may be moved to the gymnasium. There are no rain dates for any of the concerts.
If a concert is to be moved indoors or canceled, we will post a message on this page by 2pm on the day of the concert and on our social media channels, as well as leave a message on our Ticket Office phone number (612-333-6669), and we will notify local media of the change.
Storm shelters
Public storm shelter spaces vary by location:
- Harriet Island – There is sheltered area in the Clarence W. Wigington Pavilion, but space is limited.
- Lake Harriet – There is no shelter at the Lake Harriet Bandshell other than the stage itself.
- Shattuck-St. Mary’s School – In case of severe weather, concert-goers will be directed to safe ground floor and underground locations on campus.
