Project Opera One Acts

by Paulus, Weill and Britten

February 22 and 23, 2013

The Lab Theater

700 North First Street

Minneapolis, MN  55401

Project Opera performs three fully staged one-act operas by kids-for kids.

SHOES FOR THE SANTO NIÑO by Stephen Paulus, tells a beautiful story of a young girl meeting the Santo Niño and traveling with him as he heals children.  This opera is based on the popular children’s tale originally from northern New Mexico.

DOWN IN THE VALLEY by Kurt Weill, called an American folk opera, is about the tragic fate of a young boy who fights to defend the girl he loves. Weill uses popular America melodies such as Down in the Valley and The Lonesome Dove to tell this powerful story written specifically for teen voices.

NOYE’S FLUDDE by Benjamin Britten, a children’s operatic masterpiece, is a parable for young voices. The opera is based on a medieval mystery plan about Noah and the Ark.
