Light Walkers

Light Walkers are volunteers who assist the lighting designer by standing in for the singers onstage while the designer creates the lighting cues for the opera. Light Walkers are important to the design process because light can look very different on a human being than it looks on an empty stage. Light Walking sessions usually occur during the daytime in the week prior to opening night. Light Walkers are needed for every production. No training is required for this opportunity, but Light Walkers must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

Additional benefits of Light Walking opportunities:

  • Visit the stage and see the sets prior to the production opening – a true “behind the scenes” experience!
  • See designers and crew at work and gain an understanding of the production
  • Meet staging staff and designers
  • As a thank you, Light Walkers will be invited, along with one guest, to attend the final dress rehearsal of the opera.
