In the Barber's Chair
Wednesday, March 25, 2009 06:30 pmThe Minnesota Opera Center

Musicologist and musician Daniel Freeman will provide a glimpse into the allure of opera and a brief but in-depth look into the 19th century comic opera The Barber of Seville, written by Rossini.
Are the rumors true? Was the opera completed in a mere month, was the opening night of the opera doomed, and how did it become the operatic repertoire staple that it is today? Dr. Freeman will also discuss the use of "Barber" in pop culture and explain the history behind "Barber" and the story's continuation in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.
Resident Artist John Boehr will sing the famous aria Largo al factotum.
(How famous? Famous. You know this one: "Figaro, Figaro, Figaro!")
