Alexandria Community Residency

Minnesota Opera will embark on a week-long, intergenerational community residency in Alexandria, Minnesota. From February 18-23, 2014, Minnesota Opera Teaching Artist Bergen Baker will work with Alexandria public school students, teaching them about the art form of opera through interactive lessons, group rehearsals and master classes. The students will also study and prepare opera choruses to perform alongside adult community members and Minnesota Opera Artists in a 90-minute concert version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute that will culminate the residency.

The concert will be performed in collaboration with the Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Brad Lambrecht at 2pm, Sunday, February 23, in the Jefferson High School Gymnasium. Minnesota Opera and its community partners are preparing to deliver an operatic experience of the highest artistic quality, while at the same time providing a deeply engaging opera education experience that supports the musical development of high school participants.

Tickets are available for this special community performance of The Magic Flute ($10 adult/$5 student) at select locations (see where at www.centrallakessymphony.org), at the door or by calling Alexandria Community Education Office at 320-762-3310.
