Project Opera: Summer Camp
Do
you love to sing, act and be on stage? Are you serious about working on your
singing and acting technique? Have you ever wondered what it's like to play in
a pit orchestra? If so, this is your camp!
THE CAMP
In small ensembles, you will stage musical scenes and explore the process of
learning a new piece of music and performing with a small orchestra. Each day
will have sessions in movement, vocal coaching, staging, master classes and
more. In addition, you will explore the Twin Cities arts world by attending
concerts and museums.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
Boys & girls, grades 9-12. (Recently graduated seniors are also welcome.)
WHEN IS IT?
Singers: June 19 - 26, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Instrumentalists: June 19, 22 - 26, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Two final performances will be held on Saturday at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
AUDITIONS
Vocal auditions:
Discovery Middle School, Alexandria: Tues., March 23, 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Albert Lea High School: Mon., April 12, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Minnesota Opera Center: Sat., April 24, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and Mon., April 26, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Your audition piece should demonstrate musical and vocal ability. An aria or art song is suggested and a foreign language is not required. Solo/ensemble, All-State audition pieces are ideal. An accompanist will be provided.
Non-local candidates should send a CD/DVD recording of an art song or aria to the Opera Center, c/o Summer Camp. Recordings must be received by April 26. Enclose SAS envelop to have recording returned.
Instrumentalists: Instrumentalists must submit a CD recording by May 10 to The Minnesota Opera Center. The recording should include one selection of your choice that best demonstrates your musical and technical abilities. It should be no longer than 10 minutes. Enclose a self addressed, stamped envelop if you would like the recording returned.

INSTRUCTORS

Dale Kruse, Music Director, is a choral director at Armstrong High School and has taught at Gustavus Adolphus College. He's currently Music Director for Project Opera and performs frequently with Minnesota Opera.
Joan Potter, Stage Director and Acting Coach, was Director of Drama at Wayzata High School and a veteran stage director for Project Opera's spring opera and summer camp.
Angie Keeton, Vocal Coach, is currently the Teaching Artist for Minnesota Opera where she works extensively with singers around the state. She frequently performs as a soloists with the Opera and other musical organizations.
Jim Bartsch, Orchestra Coach, is a member of Minnesota Opera Orchestra, conductor of Philharmonic Orchestra (Minnesota Youth Symphonies) and Director of Education at Minnesota Orchestra.
Heidi Spesard-Noble, Movement Coach, has choreographed and performed in many productions for Minnesota Opera, Chanhassen Dinner Theater, Minnesota Dance Theater, among many others. She has most recently taught dance at the St. Paul Conservatory for the Performing Arts and Breck School and is returning for her third Summer Opera Camp.
